Activists To Shutdown Website Of
Animal Testing Lab Financier Stephen’s Inc.

(Philadelphia) The Animal Liberation Tactical Internet Response Network (AL-TIRN) announced early tuesday morning that the target of the electronic civil disobedience against the controversial animal testing lab Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS) would be Stephen’s Inc. of Little Rock Arkansas. Stephen’s Inc. is the biggest shareholder in HLS and was the chief financier in a bailout package that saved HLS from financial collapse last month as the lab’s banking facility called in a 22 million pound overdraft that would have sent HLS into foreclosure.

Animal activists from across the world have been notified to participate in a virtual sit-in of Stephen’s Inc. website that will effectively block it off to any potential visitors. AL-TIRN has setup websites were animal protectionists can enable a floodnet program that sends a barrage of download requests to Stephen’s website essentially clogging access to it.

Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty (SHAC), the international campaign organization committed to closing down HLS, received an anonymous communiqué last week from the AL-TIRN announcing the action and has since been alerting its thousands of supporters in the UK, the US, and across the world to be ready for tuesday. According to a SHAC spokesperson, “no matter where in they are located, we will take down anyone connected with HLS. For the 500 animals that are slaughtered each day inside HLS laboratories there are 500 different ways animal rights activists will target them.”

UK-based Huntingdon Life Sciences, one of the world’s largest and most notorious animal testing centers, has been the subject of a relentless campaign after it was exposed in five undercover investigations showing horrific animal cruelty and sloppy fraudulent science. The investigations revealed workers maliciously punching beagle puppies in the face, dissecting a live monkey, transplanting a frozen pig heart into an otherwise healthy baboon thereby killing the animal, taking drugs and drinking at work, and falsifying scientific data, procedures, and animal welfare standards. Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty has convinced a large number of shareholders and customers of HLS into dropping their support of the company. The results have been all-time low worker morale, shattered customer confidence, and crisis level share prices that almost lead HLS into foreclosure less than one month ago.

The SHAC campaign equates this form of protest to a 21st century version of how Gandhi or Martin Luther King challenged the autrocities and injustices of their time. SHAC further commented, “we anticipate this action to be only the first in a damaging campaign against HLS and Stephen’s that will only escalate each day as the number of animals they brutally and needlessly murder escalates. We’ll be in their offices, at their doorsteps, on their phones, and in their computers. There will be no rest for the wicked.”
