Animal Liberation Activists Hit Wash. State Fur Farm
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Snohomish County, Wash. - Animal liberation activists have struck once
again at Brainard's Fur Farm in Snohomish County, Wash., setting 200 mink free on
April 19. This is the fourth time Brainard's has been targeted by activists in the
past five years, and the largest release at that site.
The mink were set free and released into the surrounding wilderness. The
action has not been officially claimed by the Animal Liberation Front or any other
group or organization; the ALF Press Office learned of the action through an
Everett Herald article on April 26. The report identified the fur farm as
being located "in the 19100 block of Welch Road in the Snohomish area." Brainard's
Fur Farm is located at 19127 Welch Rd. There was a reported financial loss of
$35,000 to Brainard's.
The following is a chronology of mink releases at Brainard's Fur Farm:
June 1996 80 mink released
This most recent mink release is the 69th action of this type against the fur
farm industry since Aug. 13, 1995, when the ALF began its campaign of setting
free captive animals from fur farms in the U.S. and Canada, and the 7th
time a Washington State fur farm has been hit.
The ALF believe that the fur farming is inherently cruel and abusive toward
mink, fox, and other fur-bearing animals, and support the total abolition of
the industry. Contrary to fur industry propaganda, clothing made from animal
skins is neither "environmentally friendly," "organic," or necessary.
"Mink are sentient animals who have a right to live their lives without being
imprisoned, gassed, anally electrocuted or tortured," comments David
Barbarash, ALF spokesperson.
The Animal Liberation Front is an international underground movement of
compassionate people who believe that animals must be set free from abusive
conditions. Through tactics of rescue missions and property destruction
the ALF carries out its campaigns anonymously and non-violently. In its 20-year
history in North America there has never been any injuries or deaths resulting from
their actions.
