PORTLAND, OR - Portland Community College (PCC) officials announced today that they were canceling a premiere video showing and public talk by Earth Liberation Front spokesperson Craig Rosebraugh. The video entitled "Igniting the Revolution: An Introduction to the Earth Liberation Front" was scheduled to premiere at PCC's Cascade Campus in Portland on July 27, 2001. This is the first time Rosebraugh, who has acted as an ELF spokesperson since 1997, has ever been censored or had an event canceled due to the subject matter.

Rosebraugh, who has a confirmed written contract with PCC for the July 27 event, claims the school is breaching that contract. The event was originally confirmed by Heidi Moir of the campus facilities department on July 10, 2001.

Two days later on July 12 Linda Reisser, Dean of Student Development, phoned Rosebraugh informing him that PCC would be requesting he obtain a $1,000,000 insurance policy for the event in addition to hiring a police officer. Reisser told Rosebraugh that if these and additional conditions were not met the event would be canceled. Yet the confirmed contract signed by Moir on July 10 fails to contain these conditions. Reisser told Rosebraugh that the additional conditions were added to the event after PCC received complaints from the general public. Reisser's conditions resulted in the cost to Rosebraugh for the event increasing from $150.00 to over $1,000.

In response to Reisser's additional conditions being imposed, Rosebraugh commented, "This is an outrage. PCC is breaching a contract and imposing unheard of conditions for an event of this caliber all in attempt to censor any information that might be controversial or objectionable to the mainstream public."

"I am embarrassed and ashamed that an educational institution where I once studied would censor a completely legal educational event designed to spark public debate about crucial issues currently facing the local community and nation", Rosebraugh stated.

Rosebraugh has already contacted his attorney and states he will if necessary pursue a civil suit against PCC to be reimbursed for promotional costs and time already spent relating to the July 27 event. In addition Rosebraugh said he will be contacting the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) to file a formal complaint regarding this blatant exercise in censorship.

Acting as a spokesperson for the Earth Liberation Front in North America, Rosebraugh has given lectures and presentations at colleges and universities thought the United States. American University, Virginia Tech, University of Wisconsin - Madison, Indiana University, Portland State University, Lewis & Clark College, Reed College, Oregon State University, University of Oregon, The Evergreen State College are just a few examples of institutions that have hosted Rosebraugh's lectures and presentations in the last few years.

Meanwhile the search for another venue to premiere the video continues.
