Former Spokesperson For Earth Liberation Front Press Office Returns

PORTLAND, OREGON - After stepping down from the North American Earth Liberation Front Press Office on Sept. 5, 2001, Leslie James Pickering has returned to his position as Spokesperson for the group.

"The Earth Liberation Front Press Office should now be considered at least as open and available to the public and media as it had been up until last September 5th," Pickering said, "the press office has, and will continue to work to explain the importance and necessity of clandestine guerrilla action in a revolutionary movement to liberate the Earth from the stranglehold of the system."

"Those who struggle for revolutionary change in North America will not be intimidated by the system's alleged 'War on Terrorism', it's so-called 'Patriot Act' or their 'House Subcommittee hearing on Eco-Terrorism'. If anything, these only exemplify the dire need for a revolutionary movement struggling on the side of the people here in North America."

The FBI considers the Earth Liberation Front a top 'domestic terrorist' threat, and is participating in February 12th's House Subcommittee Hearing on Eco-Terrorism in Washington, DC. Also included in the hearing, under force of subpoena, is former spokesperson for the Earth Liberation Front Press Office, Craig Rosebraugh. The hearing is the first of it's kind to specifically focus on 'Eco-Terrorism', and Rosebraugh potentially faces imprisonment if the subcommittee isn't satisfied with his participation.

Since 1996, the Earth Liberation Front has claimed responsibility for over $40 million in damages to individuals, corporations and government agencies that profit from the destruction of life on Earth. The E.L.F. has engaged in dozens of illegal acts of sabotage, including a number of high profile arsons such as; the May, 2001 arson at the offices of Toby Bradshaw at the University of Washington, the January, 2001 arson at Superior Lumber in Glendale, Oregon, the December, 1999 arson at the office of Catherine Ives at Michigan State University, the December, 1998 arson at US Forest Industries in Medford, Oregon, the October, 1998 arson at Vail Resorts in Colorado, and last saturday?s fire at the Microbial and Plant Genomics Research Center at the University of Minnesota to name a few.

"Direct action taken by the Earth Liberation Front, and similar underground organizations, is part of a larger struggle for revolutionary change. The system has long proven that it values profits and property over life, and this underground response is the voice and fist of the people rising in self defense" Pickering said.
