³EXPLORERS DISCOVER SIGNS OF ANCIENT CULTURE IN BOLIVIAN     ³

³LA PAZ (JULY 19) DPA - Explorers have discovered vestiges of³
³a previously unknown, approximately 3,000-year-old culture  ³
³in the tropical forests of Bolivia, the Presencia newspaper ³
³reported Friday.                                            ³

³The paper said the group of Spanish and Bolivian scientists ³
³found household utensils dating back to 1,200-800 B.C. in   ³
³the Mamore River basin in Beni province. In some caves,     ³
³written symbols and pieces of ceramics were found.          ³
³                                                            ³
³Jose Barba, the Spanish spokesman of the group, told the    ³
³paper that ''a culture with very advanced agriculture lived ³
³in the Amazon region of Bolivia''.                          ³

³He said the signs indicated that the unknown people built   ³
³dams and had a properly functioning sewage system.          ³
