The church of Scientology claims that their president, Heber C. Jentzsch: "In 1986, ... received an honorary doctorate from St. Martin's College and Seminary in recognition of his work to end drug abuse among young people and for his ongoing fight to expose psychiatric abuses against minorities." (http://www.scientology.org/p_jpg/scnnews/jentzsch.htm)

When I wrote to Saint Martin's (http://www.stmartin.edu/) to ask them about this*, they replied:

Dear Mr. Xxxxxxxx,

Thank you for the heads up on the claims from the President of the Church of Scientology. We have never had any relationship with this group, never given an honor of any sort to them, let alone an honorary doctorate. I have just written to them demanding a correction of their claims.

Sincerely,

David R. Spangler
President

I have to add a important caveat! I am not certain that Heber was referring to this particular Saint Martin's College and Seminary! Heber could have been mistakenly referring to the Saint Martin School of Art and Design in the UK (they don't have a seminary though), or there could be another Saint Martins College and Seminary that I was unable to locate.

Oh Heber! Why couldn't you have claimed an honorary mullah-ship from the Ayatollah Khomeini Islamic Studies Center in Tehran? I could have sent them L. Ron Hubbard's meditations on Islam (e.g., http://www.xs4all.nl/~xemu/quotes/Casbah.ra ) Islamic law may be Fair, but it ain't no Game!

Hugs, Pippi

* text of my letter to St. Martin's, SLI is their comparative religions institute.

Dear SLI,

I wonder if you would be so kind as to describe the relationship between your College and the Heber C. Jentzsch of the Church of Scientology in Los Angeles?

A cousin of mine from Seattle told me that your College awarded an honorary doctorate. Considering the Church of Scientology's hatred of Christianity, I find this very hard to believe!

My cousin has provided me with an internet link to Scienology that makes this claim (http://www.scientology.org/p_jpg/scnnews/jentzsch.htm) as well as links to audio recordings Scientology's leader, L. Ron Hubbard that speak for themselves:

http://www.xs4all.nl/~xemu/quotes/Christgm.ra
http://www.xs4all.nl/~xemu/quotes/Nochrist.ra
http://www.xs4all.nl/~xemu/quotes/RomnCath.ra
http://www.xs4all.nl/~xemu/quotes/God.ra

Finally, these hideous 'Scriptures' of L. Ron Hubbard:

No doubt you are familiar with the Revelations section of the Bible where various events are predicted. Also mentioned is a brief period of time in which an arch-enemy of Christ, refered to as the anti-Christ, will reign and his opinions will have sway. All this makes for very fantastic, entertaining reading but there is truth in it. This anti-Christ represents the forces of Lucifer (literally, the "light bearers" or "light bringer"), Lucifer being a mythical representation of the forces of enlightenment, the Galactic Confederacy.

My mission could be said to fulfill the Biblical promise represented by this brief anti-Christ period. During this period there is a fleeting opportunity for the whole scenario to be effectively derailed, which would make it impossible for the mass Marcabian landing (Second Coming) to take place. The Second Coming is designed, among other things, to trigger a rapid series of destructiv events.

With the exception of the original Buddhism, virtually all religions of any consequence on this planet, mono- and pantheistic alike, have been instruments to speed the progress of this "evolution of consciousness" and bring about the eventual enslavement of mankind. As you know, Siddhartha Gautama never claimed to be anything more than a man. Having caught on to this operation, he postulated his own return as Metteyya, part of which prophecy will have been fulfilled upon the passing of L. Ron Hubbard.

For those of you whose Christian toes I may have stepped on. let me take the opportunity to disabuse you of some lovely myths. For instance, the historic Jesus was not nearly the sainted figure has been made out to be. In addition to being a lover of young boys and men, he was given to uncontrollable bursts of temper and hatred that belied the general message of love, understanding and other typical Marcab PR. You have only to look at the history his teachings inspired to see where it all inevitably leads.

I am truly sadened that St. Martin's was knowingly and unknowlingly slandered by Mr. Jentzch and I am more sadened to have to share this with you.

Respectfully yours,

Xxxxxx Xxxxxxxx
