Since some of the materials which describe the $cientology cult could be considered to be copywritten materials, I have censored myself and The Skeptic Tank by deleting any and all possible text files which describes the cult's hidden mythologies. I have elected to quote just a bit of the questionable text according to the "Fair Use" legal findings afforded to those who report. - Fredric L. Last week's included a piece on anonymity and Julf's They talked to "The Samaritans" (an anonymous suicide/depression/listening service) who have a Net account and whose correspondents need anonymity. The BBC interviewed Julf in Finland and a prof. at the university where he works. The BBC talked about the system where Julf keeps the original addresses and (of course) his generated anon ones. The program mentioned the raid in Julf from the CoS, complete with a forbidding picture of the CoS HQ(? a huge grey skyscraper with the CoS emblem ontop; very Ministry of Truth -:). The program was cagey about the reasons for the raid; they just explained that the CoS got police pressure on Finland because "copyrighted material" passed through penet. The Finnish police arrived with a warrant to sieze Julf's entire system (and expose *all* anon ids); so he had to give the one address they requested or lose them all. Julf has since moved the penet server's physical location to a secret address (previously it was on University property, public and vulnerable). I think Julf is a fine person! -- Peter Lucey DFG-12 (uk) Knights of Xenu (KoX)
