Since some of the materials which describe the $cientology cult could be
considered to be copywritten materials, I have censored myself and The
Skeptic Tank by deleting any and all possible text files which describes
the cult's hidden mythologies. I have elected to quote just a bit of the
questionable text according to the "Fair Use" legal findings afforded to
those who report. - Fredric L. Rice, The Skeptic Tank, 09/Sep/95

As we know from your deposition in the Dennis Erlich case, you, the
president of RTC, reads alt.religion.scietology on a daily basis. Thus,
allow me to provide you with the following constructive criticism:
As we have all seen (over and over again), there is an official COS
attempt to "handle" ars. Your attempt is failing, for the following
reasons:
(1) The clambots lie:
Andrew Milne claimed LRH received 20+ medals from his tour of duty
in the Navy. Checking with the DoD shows that LRH received the same
four medals that any breathing member of the Navy received.
(2) The clambots lie:
RonArtistR claimed that nobody of importance in the COS knew about
ars. Your deposition proves that he is lying.
(3) The clambots lie:
Several of the clams have claimed that "there are only a few
members of the COS who read ars, and they only post for minutes
a day".
The fact that Woody (noodle@netcom.com, Rick Sherwood) is consistantly
the #1 poster in ars, and that RonArtistR is #4 for the last couple
of weeks, and that Vera Wallace (vera@earthlink.net), Talbot
(dlt@lightside.com), and Chris Miller (cmiller@lightside.com)
show up in the top 20 when they post shows this to be a lie.
(4) The clambots lie:
Chris Miller (cmiller@lightside.com) recently claimed that a
scientologist suffered severe third-degree burns from a bombing
that occured at a French building run by the COS. While I do not
in any way, shape, or form condone the bombing of any place, whether
it be a crack house or the Vatican, a check with the readers of
soc.culture.french shows the claim of Chris to be a lie, as the
registar of the hospital described the clam as "legerment blessed".
(5) The clambots are hypocrites:
Vera Wallace (vera@earthlink.net) claimed the reason why she posted
TaraStar's name, the name of her SO, her address and phone number to
the net is because she didn't believe in anonymity. Despite this,
she refused to post her real name, address, and phone number.
(6) The clambots are hypocrites:
Chris Miller (cmiller@lightside.com) recently posted an article to
soc.women, claiming that:
Chris Miller is a woman.
Chris Miller has a daughter.
Chris Miller's daughter works for MoFo, the law firm that is defending
Dennis Erlich against the COS.
"Chris" spents weeks ignoring questions raised by this post. Finally,
"she" claimed that the material in the post was accurate, but that
certain details were altered to protect "her" identity.
(7) The clambots are hypocrites:
RonArtistR, Chris Miller, Andrew Milne, Vera Wallace, "Jack Farmer",
and others have shown up saying something along the lines of
"if you have questions about scientology, just ask, and I'll try
to answer them."
The questions that arise are along the lines of:
Tell us about Xenu.
Who were the Marcabs?
Why was L. Ron Hubbard named as an unindicted co-conspirator in
Operation Snow white?
Who/What was Yantru?
Why did the COS engage in Operation Freakout, in an attempt to
get Paulette Cooper incarcareted or placed in an asylum?
Where are those subs?
Where is the evidence that L. Ron studied under Thompson?
Oddly enough, the clams have provided no answers to these questions.
(8) The clams lie:
(No, we haven't covered this before)
Andrew Milne claimed to be "just a guy". He was shown (by Vera
Wallace, hehehe) to be a member of the OSA. RonArtistR claimed
that he was not a FSM. Further research shows that he is (or will
soon be) a mission holder at Saint Louis Obispo, CA. All mission
holders are FSM, by definition.
****WHAT YOU, WARREN MCSHANE, CAN DO****
Usenet is like nothing your tech has ever encountered before. You
cannot stop "them" from posting SCAMIZDAT (oh, a semi-reliable source
of mine claims that SCAMIZDAT #10 will begin the posting of the scanned
works of LRH, starting with History Of Man).
You cannot stop "us" from talking about the "Church of Scientology"<barf>.
If you really think you can, just try and cancel all the posts about your
"Church" from all the newsgroups.
The Internet, and Usenet, are like nothing you have encountered before.
This is an interactive written medium, the likes of which have not been
seen before on this earth. You cannot read my body language, I cannot
see the expression on your face when you post somthing.
Because of this, there are several conventions that have arisen. For
one, comparing people or arguments to the Na*i party is not going to
have any effect.
Posting claims (such as the claim that Modemac is a child pornographer)
without any documentation will get you nowhere.
Making wild accusations (such as the claim that LRH excelled in school)
will be shot down almost instantly, because one or more of the 30,000
readers of ars will bother to look it up.
In short, Warren, your attempt to "handle" ars is failing, and failing
badly. I have shown several dozen (maybe 50 at the tops) people excerpts
of your moldy OTIII "copyrighted unpublished trade secrets". Invariably,
they think I'm kidding.
Then they see the Taboyoyon Affidavit. And the other affidavits. Then
they realize what's going on.
So, let me give you some hints:
(1) Tell the clambots to stop lying. Have them post, but include a
.signature along the lines of "speaking as a member of, but not
for or on behalf of the cult of scientology".
(2) Tell the clambots to stop lying. Dan Seigel claimed in e-mail that
he couldn't reveal to me the names of the people who told him that
MSH was set up to go to jail in Operation Snow White.
Oh, please.
(3) Tell the clambots to get into comm with us:
Where is the transcript of the interview with Snake Thompson's
daughter?
Where is the evidence the COS taught 1.5 (or 2.5) million children
in South Africa to read?
Where is the evidence that L. Ron sunk two japanese submarines?
This is usenet, where documented evidence is eternal, where attitude
and posting style go a long way, and people who are shown to be liars
have no clout.
(4) Call of the "tech":
(No, that's not a typo.)
Tell Eugene to go back to his stable of whores, and stop bothering
Grady Ward's mother.
Stop cancelling posts to ars. Your last attempt at cancelling
"trade secret" posts only shows that you have no concept of "fair
use", the US legal system, or the Berne Convention.
Stop forging posts. I have decent documentation that "henry"
(anon*@nyx.cs.du.edu) never posted the "blow up your local church
of scientology today" article.
Call off the 'ho: There is nothing Helena can do to me, nothing she
and her claims of "if it were true, we would have sued you by now"
can do against the dozens, possibly hundreds of sites that no longer
honor cancel messages for articles in ars. If the COS really wants
to try and sue hundreds of people at once for "propogating copyrighted
unpublished trade secrets", go for it.
But how will you know who we are?
(5) Send in Leisa. Leisa Goodman (whose homepage is www.theta.com) is
the official media relations director for the COS. As such, it seems
to me that it would be her job to come to ars and answer the critics
of the COS.
Send her in. She's officially a member of the church. It is her
job to deal with public relations. The COS has a very bad image
on ars right now. It should be her job to correct that.
(6) Link man, link: The critics of Scientology have placed links on
their homepages to Leisa's homepage. Leisa, however, has not returned
this favor. Do you know what this tells the web folks? (Hint: It's a
good impression for the critics, Leisa gets a not-good impression).
(Leisa gets an entheta impression? The critics are spreading theta,
by making sure you get the whole story. Leisa seems to want to
have you know nothing except what she wants you to know.)
(7) Get some clambots with some education. Or at least, get some
clambots who understands the conventions of the web and usenet.
