The following is not an official statement; it is just what I have heard.

Families Under Scientology Stress (FUSS) has recently been formed to
campaign for greater public awareness of Scientology and for changes
to this country's legislation. The address is:

Feel free to send them messages of support, requests for information or
advice or suggestions on how  The money for all the leaflets, mailings,
press packs, photocopying and so on is coming out of the pockets of a few
dedicated people, so I imagine some cash would not go amiss either.

Their objective is not that Scientology should be banned or that there
should be laws directed at it specifically. In 1971 Sir John Foster MP 
published his Enquiry into the Practice and Effects of Scientology. He
stated that he could not see "any reason why scientologists should not be
allowed to practice psychotherapy if they satisfy the proposed
professional body that they are qualified to do so, that their techniques
are sound, that their practitioners receive adequate training and operate
under a stringent ethical code, and that ther is no hint of exploitation."

Sir John recommended the immediate introduction of a Psychological
Practices Act, organising the sale of therapy under this professional body.

Let's look at those demands again, FUSS wants therapy only to be sold if
the practitioners:
	-are appropriately qualified
	-are using techniques with at least some scientific validity
	-are operating ethically
	-are not exploiting their customers.

These are hardly extreme demands: they're just common sense rules that
already apply in a lot of other professions. If the critics are right,
then Scientology would simply be unable to function if this act were
passed. If the critics are *wrong*, then Scientology has nothing to fear
from such legislation.

It's 24 years since Sir John Foster made those recommendations and still
they have not been acted on. Why not? Ask your MP!
