Since some of the materials which describe the $cientology cult could be
considered to be copywritten materials, I have censored myself and The
Skeptic Tank by deleting any and all possible text files which describes
the cult's hidden mythologies. I have elected to quote just a bit of the
questionable text according to the "Fair Use" legal findings afforded to
those who report. - Fredric L. Rice, The Skeptic Tank, 09/Sep/95

Here! Present! Co$ stinks!
I've heard reports about the atrocities of Co$ over a period of many years
now. I am passionate about the rights of religions and other groups that are
out of the mainstream, but Scientology <gag!> is *not* a religion. That's
just a ruse for gaining undeserved respect from the population, and for
enjoying undeserved taxation and other legal advantages.
The fact is that Co$ is one of the most criminal organizations in the
world, solely dedicated to gaining profit and power. It's vital that
as many people as possible are educated about it. Thank God that we
have the Internet to further that cause.
I'm a strong believer in the Net as a means to empower the average
citizen, and I am appalled at Co$'s efforts to silence its critics
on ARS. All of us have a duty to help put a stop to this.
I think that a historic event is in the works here. Last winter, Intel
was forced into a recall action on its Pentium that it originally
wanted to avoid, largely because of public pressure that began in
the Usenet newsgroup comp.sys.intel. Now the ethereal world of the
Net is once again making waves in the Real World(tm), and I'm confident
that the Net will once again come out on top. The Net is too wide-
spread and too wide-open to wrestle down, and even a well-funded
junta like Co$, with all its lawyers and thugs, are no match for the
combined efforts of so many concerned citizens. Co$ might not be eliminated
any time soon, but it will come away badly bruised from this encounter,
deeply discredited in the eyes of millions (and that's a damn good
thing).
I've been planning to write a longer de-lurking post, and will add
more comments as soon as time permits, but I couldn't say no to the
roll call. I invite other lurkers to join in. If you're concerned
about harassment from Co$, you can use the anonymous remailing
service (see the instructions below). I humbly suggest that, to
better serve this cause, you try not to flame too much; just give
a clear, calm statement of what you think about all of this.
Hi Helena. Must be exhausting, scanning all those posts, day after day
after day ... Hope you get disbarred, my dear.
Carlos
