Since some of the materials which describe the $cientology cult could be
considered to be copywritten materials, I have censored myself and The
Skeptic Tank by deleting any and all possible text files which describes
the cult's hidden mythologies. I have elected to quote just a bit of the
questionable text according to the "Fair Use" legal findings afforded to
those who report. - Fredric L. Rice, The Skeptic Tank, 09/Sep/95

I have been reading this Newsgroup for weeks, spending many hours
pouring over the posts and replies.
It dawned on me while doing so that I was developing some fear of
posting *anything* in here, given the nature of the rather vicious
attacks that have been made on folks critical of the Scientology
Organization.
This will probably be my first and last post here, but I needed to
drop off some thanks to Dennis Erlich et. alia for exhibiting an
enormous amount of courage. I have never been a Scientologist;
interestingly enough I did read "Dianetics" when I was a teenager
in Ohio-- fortunately, that was the only exposure I ever got.
While the basic ideas of the reactive mind are interesting, and
carry some truth, its just another helpful concept in understanding
the human condition, not the panacea of mankind. Any metaphor, made
absolute and taken to the extreme, will ultimately warp your map of reality.
I am not qualified to comment any further on the issue.
What I am qualified to say is that thanks to you folks, neither myself,
nor my progeny, nor my relatives, nor anyone I care about and regularly
communicate with, will *ever* be involved with this group. Of course,
to my knowledge, no one I know is. But one day down the road, when my
son calls me from college to share his experience with me and may
mention he is getting involved with this group, I will know *exactly*
what to do, early on, so that he might be spared the untold miseries
(I have a feeling I'm just seeing the tip of the iceberg here) that
could cascade from that involvement.
Thank you, folks. I'm just the tip of the iceberg here too, I think.
What you're doing here is important. The price you have paid will at
least not be wasted.
Back to Lurkerland for me.
