Since some of the materials which describe the $cientology cult could be
considered to be copywritten materials, I have censored myself and The
Skeptic Tank by deleting any and all possible text files which describes
the cult's hidden mythologies. I have elected to quote just a bit of the
questionable text according to the "Fair Use" legal findings afforded to
those who report. - Fredric L. Rice, The Skeptic Tank, 09/Sep/95

'course, one needs PR campaigns when one hasn't got product worth
shit. All the CoS *is* is PR puff and lies - there's precious little
REAL "good work" done in the name of the cult, and what is allegedly
done seems to always be to the benefit of the clams.
We had a poster a couple of days ago who mentioned the sign on the
roadside mentioning the CoS and litter clearance - the road was
covered in rubbish for the next two miles. This description struck a
chord with me, as to my mind it summed up beautifully the inept PR
that the cult practices: more interested in the sign that tells the
world that the CoS is doing litter clearance for the next two miles
than in actually making sure that the litter clearance got done. The
net result? Thousands of people a day who associate the CoS with
broken promises and a rubbish-strewn street. Yet they just don't seem
to twig to it: in Tottenham Court Road, in Central London, the
Scienos give out leaflets and copies of their rag, Freedom. They seem
oblivious to the hostility of the people they pester day in and day
out, and equally oblivious to the shredded leaflets that litter the
street for tens of yards in each direction. Then, for those daring
enough to open their shoddy propaganda piece, there is the photo-
graph of the grinning mob of Scientology "volunteer ministers",
mugging for the camera in front of the bombed FBI building in
Oklahoma. My immediate reaction was one of disgust. Try as I might to
see the thing in a different way, I simply could not avoid the
conclusion that even a bomb explosion that killed so many people was
not too horrific for the cult to make PR capital out of. Similar
pictures of Scienos at Kobe following the earthquake there told me
that this was not just an isolated aberration, either.
