L. Ron Hubbard had the following to say about the religious "trade
secret" issue, in a taped lecture in 1955:
Now if we were to sit down and try to monopolize every piece of
information which we ever collected ... and we were to take this
information and carefully say, "Now look! This piece of information
is absolutely sacred, and it's not to be distributed to anybody!
And it's not to be given to _anybody_, and _only_ those people who
have a pink cross on the right shoulder will be able to read this
information"--we would go into a mysterious sort of cult.
(Quoted in Bent Corydon, _L. Ron Hubbard, Messiah or Madman?_, 1992
revised edition, Fort Lee, N.J.: Barricade Books, p. 356.)
