THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN CONTROL PEOPLE IS TO LIE TO THEM.
You can write that down in your book in great big letters. The only way
you can control anybody is to lie to them. When you find an individual is
lying to you, you know that the individual is trying to control you. One
way or another this individual is trying to control you. That is the
mechanism of control. This individual is lying to you because he is trying
to control you - because if they give you enough misinformation they will
pull you down the tone scale so that they can control you. Conversely, if
you see an impulse on the part of a human being to control you, you know
very well that that human being is lying to you. _Not "is going
to", but "is" lying to you._
Check these facts, you will find they are always true. That person who is
trying to control you is lying to you. He's got to tell you lies in order
to continue control, because the second you start telling anybody close to
the truth, you start releasing him and he gets tougher and tougher to
control. So, you can't control somebody without telling them a bunch of
lies. You will find that very often Command has this as its greatest
weakness. It will try to control instead of leading. The next thing you
know, it is lying to the [illegible]. Lie, lie, lie, and it gets worse and
worse, and all of a sudden the thing blows up. Well, religion has done
this.
_Organised religion tries to control, so therefore must be lying._

The reasonable man quite ordinarily overlooks the fact that people from
2.0 down have no traffic with reason and cannot be reasoned with as one
would reason with a 3.0. There are only two answers for the handling of
people from 2.0 down on the tone scale, neither one of which has anything
to do with reasoning with them or listening to their justification of
their acts. The first is to raise them on the tone scale by
un-enturbulating some of their theta by any one of the three valid
processes.
The other is to dispose of them quietly and without sorrow.
Adders are safe bedmates compared to people on the lower bands of the tone
scale. Not all the beauty nor the handsomeness nor artificial social value
nor property can atone for the vicious damage such people do to sane men
and women.
The sudden and abrupt deletion of all individuals occupying the lower
bands of the tone scale from the social order would result in an almost
instant rise in the cultural tone and would interrupt the dwindling spiral
into which any society may have entered.
It is not necessary to produce a world of clears in order to to have a
reasonable and worthwhile social order; it is only necessary to delete
those individuals who range from 2.0 down, either by processing them
enough to get their tone level above the 2.0 line--a task which, indeed,
is not very great, since the amount of processing in many cases might be
under fifty hours, although it might also in others be in excess of two
hundred--or simply quarantining them from the society.
A venezuelan dictator once decided to stop leprosy. He saw that most
lepers in his country were also beggars. By the simple expedient of
collecting and destroying all the beggars in Venezuela an end was put to
leprosy in that country.

An out-ethics course would be anything less and sometimes becomes so

There's no in between point. A course (or any activity for that

No, but I always hear those cult lies concerning a critic molesting his
daughter. Lies and rumors from cult members, spread not just with the
encouragement of the cult, but apparently assigned to staff to disseminate
as part of their sacred duties. Don't you feel that those who spread the
rumor are performing a sacred duty? Doing something dead cult founder L.
Ron Hubbard would be proud of? If I've got things wrong, please
straighten me out. I've never been in the cult and don't know everything.
I'll read your response carefully.
