Notice: Fredric Rice may have removed segments of the replies given to questions if they contained copoyrighted materials. After a very short while, Scientology "experts" refused to answer questions and started cut-and-pasting copyrighted cult propaganda. Additionally I removed URLs in some of the replies, and left them in others. And it's also important to note that eventually the unfortunate "Greg Churilov" cultist was ejected from askme.com for his typical Scientological behavior.

Subject: Right and wrong

vkoodeen asked this question on 4/12/2000:

I have a deep question to you in connection to Scientology doctrine:

Man is basically good. It means that man is doing all in best interests. Thus he is always right. Thus, everyone is right. This means that there is no such thing as "wrong".

Please explain from the viewpoint of Scientology/Dianetics!

Thanks in advance!

Greg Churilov offered this freakishly insane and meandering rant on 4/12/2000:

Your leap of logic is incorrect. Man IS basically good. That means that he TRIES to do all in best interests. Thus, he BELIEVES himself to be right. This does not say that Man is basically WISE. In fact, I would tend to say that in most cases, examining our track record, we've all been fairly knuckle-headed in our decisions from time to time.

[Actually, according to the Scientology cult, every person is infested with invisible murdered space aliens, murdered by Xenu eithe 75 million or 75 billion years ago (Hubbard's hand writing can't be made out very clearly on that sentence.)

Because they're infested with these murdered space aliens, humans have a "reactive mind." These invisible murdered space aliens have to be "blown" in the jargon of the cult before one can remove the condition that causes humans to be "degraded" in the jargon of the cult.

These aspects of the bait-and-switch bunko scams are covered in the cult's "New Era Dianetics Operating Thetan" writings -- or "NOTs" for short, which can be found all over the Internet. One wonders that with the easy access to these materials, cult followers still fork over insane amounts of money for copies from their cult's leaders - flr]

The Scientology doctrine about this is contained in the subject of www.scientologyhandbook.org/sh10.htm First off, Man IS basically good. Man is not inherently a savage beast (as Freud thought) that must be repressed by a thin layer of civilization. Man is a noble, well-meaning entity.

There are several things that cause problems for Man. One of these is an inability to balance the various dynamics in his life. Every now and then he will be faced with choices that pit one dynamic against anot her: Do you risk your life to save the family dog from a fire? Or do you protect your life for the sake of your family and let the pet die?

[Notice that there's no mention of Xenu, volcanoes, or body thetans anywhere in this unfortunate individual's comments. It seems likely that Greg Churilov simply has no idea what Scientology actually is - flr]

The conflicts cause guilt and turnoil that confuses and degrades Man. And having no way to solve these riddles, he opts for stupid solutions, such as "I'll never own a dog again" "I'll drink to forget the sadness" "I'll buy another dog and make him my top priority this time" "That stupid mutt had it coming" or whatever other silly computations a mind is capable of, all in an attempt to resolve these conflicts.

This causes, in the long run, more pain, more unwise decisions, more hurt. One more note: About 2% of humanity is antisocial. The reasons for antisocial behavior are discussed in extent in a course called "PTS/SP (Potential Trouble Sources - The Suppressive Personality") These antisocial personalities in turn usually affect their associates enough to cause roughly a 20% segment of our society to be troubled. They make poor decisions, they ocassionally cause pain.

The nature of Good and Evil is a fascinating subject, and is also covered in Scientology. After having taken these courses, I can tell you in my own experience I am much more compassionate for the troubled souls we all run into ocassionally, and at the sae time much more alert to not let the disturbed elements of society affect me.

I hope this answers your question at least at a basic level.

[Well, meandering, disjointed ranting aside, the whole point of the Scientology crime syndicate is to brainwash the rubes to the point where they'll believe anything they're sold, and then to sell them OT3, Xenu, and body thetans. That sets the stage for the crime syndicate to sell their victims the "cure" that scrapes these invisible murdered space aliens off of them.

The whole point of Scientology is to sell their gullible, ignorant victims a non-existant disease, and then sell them the non-existant cure - flr]

This web page (and The Skeptic Tank) is in no way connected with nor part of the Scientology crime syndicate. To review the crime syndicate's absurdly idiotic web pages, check out www.scientology.org or any one of the many secret front groups the cult attempts to hide behind.
