Notice: Fredric Rice may have removed segments of the replies given to
questions if they contained copoyrighted materials. After a very short
while, Scientology "experts" refused to answer questions and
started cut-and-pasting copyrighted cult propaganda. Additionally I
removed URLs in some of the replies, and left them in others. And it's
also important to note that eventually the unfortunate "Greg
Churilov" cultist was ejected from
askme.com for his typical Scientological behavior.
Anonymous asked this question on 3/29/2000:
what is Theta?
Greg Churilov told this amusing whopper on 3/29/2000:
Hi, Anonymous. Theta is a greek word, the symbol is like an "o"
with a horizontal line across is. When L.Ron Hubbard (founder of
Scientology) was developing the primary axioms of Scientology, one of the
principles that surfaced from his research and laid the foundation for the
philosophy was that there is that which is matter, part of the physical
universe, and there is that which is spiritual, and is NOT a part of the
phy classification he assigned greek letters to these separate parts, like
is done in math or physics. Things material were assigned the letted
"delta", things spiritual were assigned "theta".
Hubbard further went on to demand that anything even remotely accurate
about the criminal activities and the frauds that the Scientology cult
was engaged in was "entheta" -- which in Scientology cult jargon
means "death."
Thus to speak the truth about the criminal cult was to kill oneself.
Bizarre and freakish but the coining and redefining of words is one of
the classical earmarks of a dangerous cult - flr]
Following math nomenclature, he later coined the word "thetan" -
meaning "one unit of Theta" or one Spirit. The reason why new
words were used in Scientology is because it is a new subject, and it was
important that meanings do not get cluttered with old symbology
(words like Soul, ghost, spirit, life-force all have connotations of
their own).
As for what this cult's mad messiah came up with, none of it was new.
Even the drug-induced hallucination "research" that Hubbard
did wasn't new - flr]
A human being is composed of a Thetan, a Mind, and a body. The theta
uses the mind to drive the body. If you were to compare it (a
limited analogy) to computer terms, the body would be the hardware,
the mind would be the software... but the Thetan would be the User,
the actual being - without whom nothing would happen.)

Subject: theta
[And no, the cultist gets it wrong again. Hubbard used the word
"theta" to mean "life" and the word "entheta"
to mean "death."
[And that's nonsense as well. Dangerous cults will redefine words in
ways that aren't used "on the outside" to foster the feeling
that they (the cultists on the inside) have something new that outsiders
can't understand. The redefinition of words and the creation of new
non-words is one of the classic earmarks of a dangerous cult.
[The cultist forgot to mention that people are also composed of unknown
numbers of invisible murdered space aliens that only the Scientology crime
syndicate can scrape off of you -- for horrible amounts of money, of
course - flr]
