Notice: Fredric Rice may have removed segments of the replies given to questions if they contained copyrighted materials. After a very short while, Scientology "experts" refused to answer questions and started cut-and-pasting copyrighted cult propaganda. Additionally I removed URLs in some of the replies, and left them in others. And it's also important to note that eventually the unfortunate "Greg Churilov" cultist was ejected from askme.com for his typical Scientological behavior.

Anonymous asked this question on 5/2/2000:

What is the connection between the Church of Scientology and "Battlefield Earth" the film?

Greg Churilov gave this lie on 5/2/2000:

The Founder of Scientology, L. Ron Hubbard (http://www.lronhubbard.org) was a humanitarian, a traveler, an administrator and a philosopher; but first and foremost he was a writer.

L.Ron Hubbard started his career as a writer in the 1920's, and was the President of the Literary CLub in NY with members such as Edgar Rice Burroughs (Tarzan) and friends such as Isaac Asimov (Foundation) and Robert Heinlein (Space Troopers).

In the 1930s L.Ron Hubbard was a bestselling writer of adventure stories. He was invited to write Science Fiction for a NY publisher, and was brought to Hollywood to write screenplays.

All this time, L.Ron Hubbard used his profits from writing to pursue his real passion: Research into the human mind and the human spirit. He traveled extensively, corresponded with great thinkers, and practiced and perfected his own self-help methods.

This eventually led to the publication of Dianetics, in 1950. Dianetics became such a huge trend that it occupied all of Mr. Hubbard's time. Further, this lead to the development of Scientology, and he dedicated the rest of his life to his humanitarian efforts.

In 1980, after three decades away from the fiction world, Mr.Hubbard took the year off from his other obligations and devoted himself to writing a great Science Fiction novel. This was Battlefield Earth. (The original title was "Man, the Endangered Species").

This book became a bestseller immediately, and since the early 80s there has been talk of a movie.

John Travolta is a Scientologist, and it has been his passion to bring this great book to the silver screen as a tribute to the great man who wrote it. He is the driving force behind this project.

The movie is receiving AWESOME reviews, and by all acounts will be a blockbuster.

The storyline of the book BATTLEFIELD EARTH is not Scientology. It is fiction. It is something L.Ron Hubbard wrote to unwind from a very busy career as leader of an international movement.

best,
Spirit
