Notice: Fredric Rice may have removed segments of the replies given to
questions if they contained copyrighted materials. After a very short
while, Scientology "experts" refused to answer questions and
started cut-and-pasting copyrighted cult propaganda. Additionally I
removed URLs in some of the replies, and left them in others. And it's
also important to note that eventually the unfortunate "Greg
Churilov" cultist was ejected from
askme.com for his typical Scientological behavior.
Subject: Question regarding LRH
Anonymous asked this question on 5/8/2000:
I've always wondered why Hubbard wasn't in better health given his ablility
to "purely" apply scientology/dianetics. Can anyone explain why he died
at an average age and in such poor health with rotting out teeth?
Also, do Scientologists believe that Hubbard has picked up a new meat
body yet? Is David Miscavige head of the RTC for life? Is he accountable
to the parishoners in any form? What is done to insure that
statistics taken are meaningful? Thanks in advance for answering my questions.

You've asked several different questions.
----
Regarding Hubbard's health:
His health was the way it was because his miraculous claims of
improved health and vitality one is alleged to notice due to Dianetics
and Scientology processing were flatly false. Had they been true, he
should have lived longer and been healthier.
----
Regarding Hubbard's reincarnation:
I do not believe that any CoS entity officially recognizes any currently
living meat human as a reincarnation of LRH. But I do believe they
expect him back (in a meat body) at some undefined point in the
future.
----
Regarding David Miscavige's power and accountability:
Miscavige is the head of the RTC until it's board of directors, most of
whom are beholden to Scientology in one way or another, disqualifies
him and as long as the Sea Org follows his edicts.
What are the chances of that? I'd guess near zero. I suspect that they
have all committed conspiracies and likely broken the law together,
many times. If one goes down, they might all go down.
Miscavige has dictatorial power over all aspects of Scientology's
political organization. The parishioners can complain "officially" to the
International Justice Chief (IJC), but as the case of Randy McDonald
shows, the IJC will not buck Miscavige on any issues of import.
----
Regarding the CoS' use of accurate statistics:
This is an area where skepticism and critical thinking skills can
completely innoculate one from bullshit, bogus claims. Statistics and
testimonial evidence are used in the most oppotunistic and shameless
way by Scientology (and in many other idealogical groups, as well, I
might add).
If you want gun control, you point at the emotional trauma that is
Columbine H.S. You specifically avoid the recent statistics that the
murder rate has steadily fallen in the U.S. for 8 consecutive years.
If you want to oppose the use of mood-altering anti-depressants, like
Scientology does, you try to make a bogus connection to Eric Harris'
use of Luvox, while ignoring all the mass murderers who were not on
medications.
Statistics are tremendously easy to manipulate, and you can show
pretty much anything you want to show. It's best to view all claims of
any group, with an eye to what their spoken and unspoken agenda is.
Scientology hates psychiatry, to a level which is irrational and bizarre.
Their claims about the harm done by psychiatry are equally bizarre,
once you look past the carefully selected statistics that Scientology
introduces into it's PR materials.
Also, look at how hostile Scientology is to public debate of it's claims.
To get at the truth of an issue, sometimes you need some
confrontation and debate, to get all the available pertinent data and
points of view exposed and on the table. Scientology only wants its
view exposed, and all others shut out, silenced or discredited.
