Notice: Fredric Rice may have removed segments of the replies given to questions if they contained copyrighted materials. After a very short while, Scientology "experts" refused to answer questions and started cut-and-pasting copyrighted cult propaganda. Additionally I removed URLs in some of the replies, and left them in others. And it's also important to note that eventually the unfortunate "Greg Churilov" cultist was ejected from askme.com for his typical Scientological behavior.

Subject: Oh: And the Auditor's Code - Item number 27

FredricRice asked this question on 5/9/2000:

I also find in the Auditor's code item number 27 which reads, "I promise to refuse any being to be physically injured, violently damaged, operated on or killed in the name of 'mental treatment.'"

In light of the Lisa McPherson homicide, does anyone know if _this_ one has been repealed as well? And if not, what the Condition of Ethics would be?

Irmgard gave this response on 5/11/2000:

In my practice as auditor and trainer of auditors I never got into a real-life situation where this point was addressed.

I also never saw materials of the introspection rundown which was done on Lisa McPherson - a probable explanation would be that this rundown is not done in Class IV orgs (which are not routinely equipped with rooms to stay overnight nor with staff with 24 hours presence) and I had my auditor experience only on this level.

On the other hand I have experienced in Scientology that people in a totalitarian environment do quite some things which would normally go against their personal ethics explains them that they are for the best of everyone and Scientology.

This has to do with the mental mechanism of dissociation - man is capable of "not seeing" points which cannot be brought into accordance with the present settings.

And for the second part of the question: openly disobeying orders is a crime in Scientology.

Thanks, that's a good answer. It looks to me as though auditors _do_ hold these ideals. It looks like other departments inside of Scientology aren't constrained against violating the Auditor's Code.
