Notice: Fredric Rice may have removed segments of the replies given to questions if they contained copyrighted materials. After a very short while, Scientology "experts" refused to answer questions and started cut-and-pasting copyrighted cult propaganda. Additionally I removed URLs in some of the replies, and left them in others. And it's also important to note that eventually the unfortunate "Greg Churilov" cultist was ejected from askme.com for his typical Scientological behavior.

FredricRice asked this question on 5/11/2000:

Greetings, Scientology experts!

I have reviewed a document on the Internet that describes what the "governing policy" is for the Church of Scientology. Since this dated 1972 and since it's, well, kind of embarrassing, I'm wondering if this policy is still the prime basis for Scientology; in other words, I'm wondering if Hubbard's primary motivation for creating Scientology as described in his policy letter is still being followed today. Indeed, if this is a forgery, would someone let me know that it's a forgery?

Thanks!

-=- Begin HCOPL in extract -=-

In HCO Policy letter of 9 March 1972 Hubbard directed: "GOVERNING POLICY

The governing policy of Finance is to:

A. MAKE MONEY.

...cuts for Fair Use considerations...

J. MAKE MONEY.

K. MAKE MORE MONEY.

L. MAKE OTHER PEOPLE PRODUCE SO AS TO MAKE MONEY."

Irmgard gave this response on 5/12/2000:

This policy letter is sure no forgery - I have studied it in Scientology.

On the other hand I did not study it as the "governing policy of Scientology" but as the "governing policy of Finance" - which is a difference.

The actual practice of Scientology which I have seen on management level confirms, though, your idea: I have worked in continental management and there the managers of the local organizations did hang on the phone for hours each day and they did not ask about spiritual advances of the members but they demanded rising statistics, nothing else: sold books, sold services, delivered courses and auditing hours. And money was a big point in everyday demands of the organization managers.
