Hidden secrets of the Scientology cult
Question answered by deomorto in Scientology
FredricRice asked this question on 7/25/2000:
Again this question is more for Scientologists still stuck inside
of the cult, however I'd like to web everyone's answers.
I'm curious why Scientology's management doesn't tell people
about Xenu and Body Thetans ad everything else that forms
the core of Scientology. I'm curious why the truth about what
Scientology actually is all about had to wait for the court
system to make public.
Thanks!

First of I would challenge the assertion that OT3, Xenu,
Body Thetans are the core belief of scientology. IMHO the
core belief in Scientology is that Hubbard was right in
everything he said.
But, leaving aside that argument, let me take a poke at
your question.
The first part of my answer would be why should they?
The belief of scientologists is that premature exposure to
the materials involved will harm you. Do you seriously want
someone who believes that something will harm you, to
expose you to that thing without you being aware of the
consequences of it?
We can debate all day about whether or not the "OT
Materials" are anything other than the demented writings
of a hack pulp writer but that is neither here nor there.
The sequence of events regarding the OT materials are
1) Hubbard 'discovers" them
Now you and I may believe that Hubbard was just
perpertrating one big bait and switch scam. Again it is a
moot point in this argument because scientologists believe
that the material is dangerous to people who are not ready
for it. Their trust is to keep it confidential.
As part of that they have tried various legal tactics like
"trade secret" - an unfortunate name but there is no legal
status for 'this written material can be dangerous for your
health" - hence they have pursued whatever legal options
they have available.
Analogy is always suspect but let me put it this way - for
a dedicated scientologist to not do everything in their
power to keep the OT material secret is rather akin to a
Roman Catholic priest allowing the consecrated host to be
used for an ice cream dessert. I should emphasize that I
am not equating the church of scientology with the Roman
Catholic church, nor am I saying that one set of beliefs is
more valid than another.
The only thing I am saying is that a scientologist's beliefs
are as truly held as a Roman Catholic's.

Thanks for your review of these issues. I have to agree that
the people who know about Xenu and BTs believe in them just
as much as Catholics believe in aspects of their faith.
The differences are that the Scientology cult's management
don't tell their followers about these things until after they
pay amazing amounts of money.
Thanks. I'll web your answer.
