The arival of Ursula in Clearwater

Question answered by FreeZone in Scientology

FredricRice asked this question on 7/25/2000:

I got to watch Ursula C. arive in Clearwater, Florida, to give a presentation on the Scientology cult. (The video can be viewed at http://www.xenutv.com/trust/arrival.ram or http://www.xenutv.com/trust/dslarrival.ram by the way, and .rm versions of those are available for download.)

The behavior of the cult followers is _extremely_ insane and I'm curious what experts on Scientology has to say about whether these people were insane going in or whether it happend to them while they were inside.

And if I may, I'd like to web your answers.

Thanks!

The video I got from the URL you pointed to had no audio on it, so I really couldn't tell what was going on or see much of the behavior you refer to.

Calling it insanity is excessive, but there is certainly a fanaticism and zealotry which is installed in many orthodox Scientologists, and this is very clearly done on purpose. They are taught that CoS is the only hope, and that those who criticize it are evil. There is a very deep contempt for the values and institutions of the broader society - at lower level they're taught that these are ignorant wogs, and at upper levels that the whole society is an implant.

Those who would be mobilized for the sort of scene you showed here would only be the truest of true believers - certainly not newbies who might actually stray into a discussion where they could hear what the other side is saying. The same statement - that they are the hard core of true believers - could indeed be made of the remaining membership of CoS as a whole after years of decline.

Thanks for your answer. There _was_ some insanity exhibited which is better described with the audio which comes with it (I wouldn't know why you couldn't hear the audio track; I got a good listen and it's very sad, to say the least.)

It would have to be the more extreme followers, yes. I can see that.
