Flat worlders....

Question answered by FreeZone in Scientology

Anonymous asked this question on 8/6/2000:

when will you ever get away from believing the earth to be flat...the questions here are designed to be provocative and insinuate criminal activity without proof and without prejudice. In all cases the questions are coming from a select group of people whos designs are to destroy religions..I see their questions on other boards as well. there is only one answer to this..flat worlders unwilling to change their viewpoint at the expense of the majority.. so who is the group that is anti Scientology?

FreeZone gave this response on 8/6/2000:

I see 2 actual questions wrapped around the speech here, so I'll try to answer them:

1: I don't believe in a flat earth and never have. Nor anybody else on this board that I know of.

2: To be anti-Scientology is not to disagree with the precepts and ideas of Scientology, still less is it to disagree with the actions of a small group - in effect, of one person - who claims ownership of Scientology and the right to collect licensing fees from anyone, anywhere, who uses it.

I don't believe that Jesus was the incarnation of God. This doesn't make me anti-Christian, it makes me a non-Christian. I think that people like Fallwell and Robertson show a near-obsession with emphasizing certain passages in Leviticus denouncing homosexuality. At the same time they totally ignore many other laws in Leviticus, on the grounds that the Christian covenant (built on a universal compassion quite invisible in their own principles) supercedes the Mosaic covenant, except apparently where they decide they like the Mosaic. That I see these people as appalling hypocrites doesn't make me an anti-Christian bigot, it merely means that I dislike one particular strain of Christianity. From my viewpoint, even that is inaccurate; more accurate would be to say that I reject a particular strain of hypocrisy and bigotry that hides behind the label of Christianity.

Going back to Scientology: does believing that the entire subject is false automatically make one an anti-Scientologist? No. Does believing that LRH liead about his biography make you an anti-scientologist? He *did* lie, but even if the evidence on this was ambiguous, the subject stands or falls on its ideas and results, not LRH's personal character. Does believing that the RTC is a criminal organization make an anti-Scientologist? Of course not - the RTC can claim to be Scientology, but that's just one more lie, one among so many you barely notice it in the crowd, unless you make a point of picking it out.

The true bigots, true anti-Scientologists, and true opponents of freedom are those who, whether for their own selfish ends or for 'your own good', would deny you the free choice to practice or not practice Scientology. They would deny you, in violation both of Scientology teachings and the basic principles of freedom, the right to embrace and use those aspects of Scientology that you agree with while rejecting those you find to be wrong. They would even demand that any person under their authority who happens to find themselves reading and agreeing with this little essay - or maybe just reading it - immediately perform the doubt formula in order to rejoin their group. You won't find such bigots here, but look around the next time you're on LRH Way or in the Fort Harrison. They'll be all around you.
