Derogatory term: Wog
Question answered by yertletheturtle in Scientology
FredricRice asked this question on 9/5/2000:
I've run across Robert A. Heinlein's use of the term "Wog" in his book,
"The Number of the Beast." I know that L. Ron Hubbard hated "Chinks"
as he called them, and that the Scientology cult uses the derogatory
term for anyone who hasn't been suckered into the cult.
Did Hubbard get the term from Heinlein? Or was the racist term merely
one of many used in Hubbard's time and Hubbard -- and his insane
cult -- merely adopt the use of the term?
Thanks.

I don't know where hubbard first used
that term.
It is defined as "worthy oriental gentleman"
and also a someone who just isn't trying.
I recall something vague about it maybe
being a british term.
Either way, it does instill a feeling
amongst scientologist that somehow they are special, privileged or
above everyone else since they are on
the true path to freedom and everyone else are
just wogs.
Ok, so it wasn't such a good answer. I personally haven't read enough
Heinline, leaning more Phillip Jose Farmer, Larry Niven and Others...
maybe you could suggest a good Heinline book!
