What is Scientology?
Question answered by remiel in Scientology
suhaimi asked this question on 9/8/2000:
What is Scientology actualy ? Is it a new kind of religion ?
remiel gave this response on 9/9/2000:
Scientology is the subject that arose out of L Ron Hubbard's
book 'Dianetics: the modern science of mental health'. It has
at one time or another claimed status as a science, a
philosophy, a mental health treatment and a religion. Some
people do follow it as a religion, and I can accept that,
although it holds no water whatsoever as a science or a
mental health treatment.
The Church of Scientology (please note the distinction here)
is the group which has majority control of Scientology the
subject. The Church was set up by L Ron Hubbard himself.
Many people suspect that he created this religion for tax
purposes. The organisation has been shown in courts around
the world to be abusive of people and the law.
For an in-depth look into the core beliefs of the
Scientologists, it might be worth your while talking to
members of the Freezone, scientologists who wish to operate
outside of the CoS. I believe we have some here. Unless my
memory fails me, Escapee is one, and FreeZone is another.
