Religious Tolerance
Question answered by formerscientologist in Scientology
Michael_Crichton asked this question on 9/16/2000:
Several of the newer pro-Church of Scientology experts here
have said thast they really are interested in open and honest
communications with critics of that Church. With that in mind, I
am reposting some older questions. These are mainly intended
for those pro-CoS experts, but of course anyone can answer.
Question 2: The Church of Scientology claims to believe in
“Religious Tolerance”. How do individual Scientologists reconcile
that belief with the Church of Scientology’s actions in depriving
“Freezone” Scientologists of their right to practice their version
of Scientology? Please note that I am not interested in legalistic
arguments about intellectual property rights, I am interested
solely in the moral reasoning behind the Church of Scientology's
actions.
formerscientologist gave this response on 9/17/2000:
Many people hold contradictory beliefs, especially
Scientologists.
The CoS members are told that freezoners are squirrels.
Squirrels are people who alter the technology of
Scientology/Dianetics. They believe incorrectly applied
technology can be a dangerous thing.
It is believed that squirrelling at worst can cave-in a person
and make him totally insane. One time a person told my sister
that a squirrel was worse than an ax murderer. The best you
can hope from a squirrel is just no case gain.
However, I have not read of any known instance of anyone in
the freezone having been made insane. It seems that only
CoS members have had psychotic breaks.
