FRANCE: SCIENTOLOGISTS ON TRIAL
Seven members of the Church of Scientology went on trial in
Marseilles on charges of fraud involving fees charged to group
members. It is the second recent trial of church members in France,
which does not recognize the group as a religion. Defense lawyers had
asked that the trial be postponed because of negative publicity after
court documents relating to the case were reported missing.
