CSICOP: Committee for the Scientific Investigations of Claims of the Paranormal.
CSICOP is the primary organization in the United States which solicits and
reports on scientific examinations of claims of the paranormal. If you're
interested in the physics of firewalking or the examinations into
claims of crashed alien spaceships , check out these pages! CSICOP
holds lectures and publishes their magazine called Skeptical
Inquirer as well as the Skeptical Briefs (which may be
downloaded on-line. See next link.)
Skeptics Society
The Skeptics Society takes on a broader spectrum of
issues which are not typically considered the venue of skeptics. If
you're interested in the Holocaust Deniers and their testable (yet
debunked) claims, or if you're interested in the scientific debate of
race as it relates to I.Q., these pages are a MUST! The
Skeptics Society publishes the finest skepticism-oriented magazine
of all organized skeptics groups. Click here to examine articles of
back issues.
http://www.urigeller.com -- Now we're getting silly!
Remember the spoon-bending freak of the 1970's? Uri Geller? How could
you forget, huh? Well, the freak was back, guys and gals.
You used to be able to click here when you wanted to see what the fraud's
been up to lately but after running thisd fraud for some time, he took it
down for some reason. You see, in addition to using his "mental
powers" to apply a little paranormal cross-vectors to footballs to
provide his favorite team with a little paranormal edge, this latest
Gellerized scheme to bilk the ignorant out of their money involved paying
the fraud to get a chance at bending a spoon over the Internet! It has
been proven beyond any doubt that Uri Geller is a liar and a fraud by
Wizard James "The Amazing" Randi, by the way. A very good,
highly detailed exposure of the cheat can be found in James Randi's book,
"The Truth About Uri Geller." The Amazing Randi
even covers how Geller's frauds are done.
The only question is whom the joke is on?
I've often suspected that some of the articles appearing in creationist
literature were jokes. R. A. Herrmann has written some incomprehensible
gibberish in the CRSQ with titles such as "The scientific existence of
a higher intelligence", and " Incompleteness, creation-science and man
made machines." His articles consist principally of many high-falutin
terms linked together with incomprehensible arguments. They give the
same impression as Alan Sokal's now-infamous article in Social
Text.
Herrmann's article "The scientific existence of a higher intelligence" can be found at the web site of the Creation Research Society. Mark's analysis is spot on. Herrmann's paper could pass for a spoof of creationist research, if it had been done by an evolutionist. Herrmann, however, is a creationist.
