I think Phil has mistakenly stated a very real issue here and accidently
exposed himself publically. His deity constructs are an artifact of his
social indoctrination and willful beliefs and reflect his own failings and
desires.

The truth is ___he___ is incapable of 'reaching' anyone here, not his deities.
He doubtless held hopes that heathens could be corrupted to believe in his
deities because his church masters tell him that they can be. Having to face
the fact that his masters lied to him -- that heathens can't be swayed by
ignorance and superstition -- is something he's ill-equipped to deal with. He
places the blame for his failing to 'reach' the heathens here upon the
sholders of his deities, not himself and certainly not the _real_ cause of his
difficulties: the intelligence and education of the heathens.
